We introduce media literacy basics (bias, intent, credibility), the SAMS feedback framework (Story, Audience, Message, Style), and course safety guidelines (consent, privacy, respectful representation). Weekly outputs: My Media Map + 60–90s “My Voice” story seed + 1-page SAMS analysis of a media example.

Learners discover meaningful stories through story circles, then shape their ideas into a clear pitch and message. They plan their project using a simple script/narration outline and a storyboard that guides production.

Lesson 6: Weekly Task Brief — Sequence Video + Shot List

What you will submit this week

You will create a short sequence video that tells a simple story through shots.

Final Deliverable

One sequence video (45–90 seconds) filmed on your phone, showing:

  • beginning → middle → end
  • mixed shot types (wide/medium/close)
  • steady footage (as much as possible)

You will also submit

  1. Your shot list (text/photo/screenshot)
  2. A one-line statement: “My story is about…”

 

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Choose your story idea (5 minutes)

Pick something simple and real:

  • school routine
  • work/hustle
  • family activity
  • making something
  • a place with meaning

✅ One main idea only.

 

Step 2: Create a shot list (10–20 minutes)

Use 6–10 shots:

  • 2 wides
  • 3 mediums
  • 3 close-ups

✅ Put your shot list in notes or on paper.

 

Step 3: Film your clips (30–60 minutes)

Rules:

  • Each shot: 6–10 seconds
  • Hold steady
  • Avoid fast camera movements
  • Keep light on the subject

✅ Aim for 10–15 clips total.

 

Step 4: Edit (simple) (20–45 minutes)

Minimum editing:

  • Trim the start/end of clips
  • Arrange into a sequence (beginning→middle→end)
  • Add a title card at the start (optional)
  • Add music ONLY if it does not overpower (optional)

✅ If you add music, keep it low.

 

Step 5: Export settings

Export as:

  • MP4
  • 720p or 1080p
  • File name:

Week5_FirstName_LastName_SequenceVideo.mp4

 

Submission Instructions

  1. Final video (MP4)
  2. Shot list (photo or text)

If your file is too big:

Quality checklist

  • My video has a clear beginning, middle, end
  • I used at least 1 wide, 2 medium, 2 close-ups
  • My shots are mostly steady
  • I avoided private/sensitive information
  • My story is clear without explanation
